The Ride to End Polio Cebu 2019 – the First-Ever Cycling Perimeter Ride in the Philippines which aimed to increase the awareness and help stop the spread of Polio Virus was successfully accomplished last November 22 – 24, 2019. Twenty-three (23) volunteer cyclists came together for this cause.

The said perimeter cycling ride covered the whole circumference of Cebu Island with a total coverage of 572 Kilometers (375Miles) for over 3 days. This was also the only event that conducted mass vaccination days while riding, where the cyclists stopped and assisted in the vaccination in 3 towns around Cebu Island.

AccountablePH’s very own Shaun Beavis was one of the volunteer cyclists that have agreed and conquered the challenge to End Polio Now.

“I was approached to join the End Polio Now ride and I didn’t hesitate to say Yes.
To be part of the inaugural perimeter ride bringing awareness and Polio vaccinations to the residents of Cebu, a place I now call home, whilst doing my passion, cycling, didn’t require much thought.
I knew it would be tough, it was but so worthwhile and rewarding.
A special moment happened in Tuburan where a young child greeted me in the traditional Filipino way of respect by taking my hand and putting it to her head a memory that will last a lifetime (pagmamano is an “honoring-gesture” used in Filipino culture performed as a sign of respect to elders).
I am not Rotarian but have huge respect for them and the team in the organisation of this event
As a foreigner, you are never quite sure how you will be received but all 23 riders are now friends for life. I thank all of them for the fun we had whilst undertaking such an incredible journey.
I cannot wait to do it all again.”

We are looking forward to joining the next Ride to End Polio Cebu and help fight to end polio now in the Philippines and worldwide. Rotary Club of Cebu is still open for donations. You may visit www.rotarycebu.org.
